It has been revealed, via an article on MCV, that Telltale games adaptation of the popular TV Series, The Walking Dead, will not be released in Australia or New Zealand.
According to the articlem, Telltale games, developer and publisher of the Episodic game, admitted that they did not submit The Game for certification in either Australia or New Zealand, fearing that they already knew what the decision would be, i.e. banned or to have the game content reduced.
“Due to the OFLC ratings laws in Australia and New Zealand, and the fact that this is a mature game, we do not currently have plans to release the game there on consoles,”
The Walking Dead Game: Episode 1 was recently released onto the Xbox LIVE Arcade and Playstation Network with moderate sucess, so this news will most likely upset Australian and New Zealand gamers who were looking forward to the game.
Australia and New Zealand have a history of banning Mature (18 Rated games) due to its violent content, including Fallout 3, which was once rejected by the Australian rating board due to its mature content. This resulted in Bethesda famously altering the code so that it could be released in all countries without further problems.
